Iranian tankers head to Venezuela as US warships deploy to Caribbean

BEIRUT, LEBANON (12:00 A.M.) – At least five Iranian fuel tankers are on the way to Venezuela to help the South American nation with their fuel crisis.

According to reports, the first Iranian tanker, Fortune, has already entered Atlantic waters while the last tanker, Clavel, crossed the Suez Canal and entered the Mediterranean Sea.

These shipments mark one of the first times in recent memory that Iran has sent such a large amount of fuel to Venezuela.

However, the Iranian tankers may face some issues while heading to the South American nation, as the U.S. Navy has recently deployed as many as four warships to the Caribbean Sea within in the last 24 hours.

According to maritime observers, the U.S. Navy deployed the U.S.S. Detroit, U.S.S. Lassen, U.S.S. Preble, and U.S.S. Farragut to the Caribbean to continue its anti-drug operations.

While it is not clear if the U.S. Navy will confront the Iranian tankers, there is the possibility that they intercept the vessels.

Venezuela is currently under a significant economic blockade that has been imposed by the U.S. and its allies.
In addition to Venezuela, Iran is also under heavy sanctions that have been imposed by Washington.

Au moins cinq pétroliers iraniens sont en route pour le Venezuela pour aider ce pays d'Amérique Latine dans sa pénurie en carburants. Selon les rapports, le premier pétrolier, le Fortune, est entré en Atlantique, tandis que le dernier, le Clavel a franchi le canal de Suez. C'est la première fois que l'Iran envoie une telle quantité vers le Venezuela.

Toutefois les pétroliers forceurs de blocus vont au devant de sérieux soucis avec la marine étazunienne, qui les attend ; elle a envoyé quatre bâtiments dans la zone Caraïbe ces dernières 24 heures : l'U.S.S. Detroit, l'U.S.S. Lassen, l'U.S.S. Preble et l'U.S.S. Farragut, théoriquement pour opérations anti-drogue.
Bien qu'il ne soit pas certain que ces navires doivent affronter les pétroliers iraniens, la possibilité d'une interception demeure.
Le Venezuela est sous le coup d'un important blocus économique de la part des Etats et de leurs vassaux. De même l'Iran est sous le coup d'un blocus économique lourd imposé par Washington.
Si les U.S.A. prenaient la décision d'intercepter les navires, cela accroîtrait encore les tensions dans le Golfe Persique. On a vu récemment une confrontation entre les flottes perse et étazunienne dans le Détroit d'Ormuz.
